Pike leaned against the wall near James T. Kirk's bedside. His eyes were half-closed, watching as he rested. The security here was terrible to allow him so close after they had seemed to find him dangerous enough to force himself and Spock into those cramped quarters. Oh well, their foolishness was his gain.

He could wait until the sedatives he had seen be administered before wore off. They needed to speak to each other. Maybe it was the devious notions of his mind, but he had a feeling that Kirk would want to know the child-Captain's plans.

After a pause Jim nodded minutely. "But this universe doesn't work like yours. He wouldn't automatically gain command--not for good. There would be an investigation. And you're suggesting he could have deliberately lost Jim."

That realization hurt--it wasn't him, wasn't his Spock, but Spock abandoning Jim--or allowing him harm--felt like betrayal. It wasn't logical, Jim's mind informed him. But that didn't matter.

"You and I know very well that Vulcans have emotions. But you're right. There's something wrong."

"I'm not sure what his reasoning is, only what I've seen. I think my Spock has something to say to him about his choice in the matters, though, and I cannot keep him calm forever."

Pike shifted, looking back down to Jim, "I'm suggesting that he knew the possibilities if he chose not to allow a medic to go. I'm equally suggesting that he cares nothing for anyone outside of his crew, and possibly his own."

Jim looked up steadily.

"I don't want to believe that," he said. "But I'm forced to consider the possibility, under the circumstances. And if he can be this ruthless when it comes to his own captain, I'm not sure what it means for anyone else." He thought for a moment. "I understand your Spock's reaction. Can you hold him, anyway, until I have a chance to talk to mine? He's spoken at length with the acting captain. Melded with him. Hell, if Spock isn't back soon, I'll talk to him myself. Just... let me investigate."

If it really was as Pike was saying, Jim feared for the young Spock as much as he feared him. More, perhaps. It meant something was terribly wrong, because that was not the Spock he knew.

"You want to believe the good in people, and seem surprised when they're less so." Pike nodded, walking slowly towards the entrance to sickbay, "I'd rather be surprised when they turn out to be decent people, like yourself."

"I'll try to keep him away for as long as I can, but I can't promise long."

Jim couldn't help the grin that flashed across his face at the acknowledgment. "I guess that surprise means more, coming from you," he said, not objecting at all to Pike's assessment or the preference. "I won't need long. I only need to know for myself. And--"

Jim stopped, a slight frown on his face.

"What are you wearing?"

Pike glanced down at himself, then smirked slightly, "Spock and I dislike the uniforms in this universe, so we made our own."

There was almost a pout on Jim's mobile features. As if he considered this most unfair.

"I don't know what happened to mine," he mourned. "I think maybe it got ripped off me at some point."

Jim had a lot to do. Get Spock back, find out what was wrong with the acting captain, make sure Jim was all right, and dammit, get a decent uniform for himself.

"Give me the information for your uniforms, make, size, color, if you can remember the codes, and I can produce them for you." Pike offered. What a strange man, this James T. Kirk.

"Can't seem to get the hang of those replicators," Jim muttered, almost to himself. But looked with undue appreciation at Pike. "Thanks. I'll... get those to you." Jim wrinkled his nose. "It's the little things, sometimes."

His expression turned serious again. "Thanks. Again. I'll be in touch."

He also needed to find out what was being done about security, but for now, he was thankful.

"Sometimes. That's why we took the time." He plucked the edge of his vest in agreement, and gave a small wave of two fingers as he went back towards his 'room' just out of sickbay.

[[OOC - Oh, still totally scary and manly and dangerous and all that jazz.

It's like the episode "Balance of Terror." Where the Romulan dude is all, "We could totally have been BFFs if we weren't on opposite sides of this ideological divide" and Kirk's all "OMG yes with sleepovers! Beam you over?" and the Romulan dude is like o.O *kapow*

I made some of that up.]]

Clearly nu!Spock must've taken after nu!Amanda. I'm just sayin'.

There were badass prompts to this effect on the first meme, and they were always *ahem* mysteriously seconded, but nothing happened. Sadfaces!

Although, yeaaah, we probably got the better deal with Sarek, long term.

It still would have been badass, though. *wants cake* *also wants to eat cake* *CONUNDRUM*. ))

And I see your point.

I'm not sure what you mean about the prompts. Were you referring to Sarek and Amanda or Kirk and his Romulan BFF?

((OOC- new RP member interrupts: hi.

Yeah, I have never gotten that expression either. :/ It has always seemed to me that the PURPOSE of having one's cake is to eat it, so why would someone feel remorse for eating the cake and no longer having it? The cake has fulfilled it's delicious purpose. ))

((OOC- Any metaphor that encourages the not-eating of cake is probably not a good one, in my book. Obviously, cake was meant to be eaten. :) Obviously.

And thanks! :) I'd love to do something with you! I guess Yeoman Rand (or Crewman 1st Class as she is right now) could run into him in the mess or something after he recovers? I'd be fine with that. ))
