After a pause Jim nodded minutely. "But this universe doesn't work like yours. He wouldn't automatically gain command--not for good. There would be an investigation. And you're suggesting he could have deliberately lost Jim."

That realization hurt--it wasn't him, wasn't his Spock, but Spock abandoning Jim--or allowing him harm--felt like betrayal. It wasn't logical, Jim's mind informed him. But that didn't matter.

"You and I know very well that Vulcans have emotions. But you're right. There's something wrong."
