50 1 Sentence Promps (Backstory)

cso_spock was so kind enough to link me to. It is a group of 50 prompts that I filled out to give some small insights into m!Pike's background. These are all filled between the time he began at the academy to the end of the war against the Vulcan rebels. Enjoy!]
01. Ring
They had given him the ring upon his graduation from the academy, but he had tossed the meaningless bit of metal aside the first time it had bothered him beneath his gloves out on a battlefield light years away.
02. Hero
A hero, they had called him, but in the end he didn’t feel like a hero, just the man lucky enough to survive long enough to find a medic.
03. Memory
Memories never fade and neither do scars.
04. Box
Think outside the box, his instructor had told him with that clean, cruel smirk on his lips, and it was probably what made killing him for being a traitor all those years later far more worth it.
05. Run
“RUN,” David, his academy roommate and the one man he had trusted to take with him on this mission, had screamed as Sarek's blade went straight through his heart in a single clean lunge.
06. Hurricane
If you thought hurricanes on Earth were terrifying, you should see the ones created out of sand that howled across Vulcan, burying entire cities in a single night.
07. Wings
She had flown high, higher then any of the rest of them, but by the time he found her crumpled on the hot desert sand, the enemy had already torn her wings from her.
08. Cold
The planet was a frozen ice ball and nothing more, and for his ‘specialty’ course on surviving extreme temperatures they had dropped him off there with nothing more then a set of clothing, a knife, and a sarcastic ‘good luck’.
09. Red
Human blood was so very, very red when it was flesh on his hands, but would always dry to a dingy dusty brown and become nothing more then a nusance.
10. Drink
The first drink he had taken when he had arrived back to the world of consciousness after killing the rebel leader was not the water he so desperately needed, but some thinly brewed form of moonshine that the soldiers passed between them on cold nights.
11. Midnight
He had spent years on Vulcan, where the dark midnights came with no moon in their sky, so maybe that was why for his days on Earth, he found himself staring up to the sky and searching for the moon.
12. Temptation
Temptation came not in the form of gold or woman, not in the form of credits or fame, but in the form of simply being free from his Captain's foolish orders.
13. View
Really, the view of Vulcan from the windows of the piece of junk that would take them from the ship to the surface of the planet was beautiful, but even from miles above the surface he thought he could feel how dry it was going to be.
14. Music
Music came in two forms: either a civilian had made it and it had something to do with love, or the Fleet made it and it was supposed to inspire war; maybe he just didn’t have an ear for music.
15. Silk
Her body had felt like silk against his as he cradled the woman who had betrayed the commander, and her blood when his knife found her throat was hotter then he would have expected.
16. Cover
Cover for shade was sparse out here, in the place called the Forge that they had to cross to find the supposed rebels’ base, but they had a mission to accomplish.
17. Promise
The promise of victory was far more sweet then the actual coppery taste of it.
18. Dream
He had a dream once that he had never forgotten: where people smiled as they greeted him, where he walked the clean corridors of a ship that he had never seen before, and where he had never been at war.
19. Candle
When the rebels had come up with a device that caused all electrical devices to stop working, he was the only person to have the mindset to stop panicking and pull out the old fashion candles that had been left behind in their emergency packs.
20. Talent
“He has an amazing talent for it, better then any other candidate this year,” They had said off in the distance as he waited to find out what the hell the results of the psi-scan were for.
21. Silence
Someone might think that the desert was silent except for the wind, but it was never silent enough when he was on guard and the rebels were getting more and more desperate lately.
22. Journey
The journey between the edge of camp and first tiny sign of the rebels’ base had cost him one of his men, so he scratched another mental notch on the list that the rebel leader had to pay for, even if he didn’t remember the name.
23. Fire
Vulcans were supposed to have no emotions, no feelings, but he swore that each time he managed to catch their eyes as they died, he saw a certain fire snuff out.
24. Strength
Their physical strength was three times that of a human, but there were ways to counter that with the right strike; nothing could compare to the strength of their minds except the force of a knife in their flesh.
25. Mask
Their faces are emotionless masks that hide the animal within.
26. Ice
He still, even years later after his cold survival exam in the ice, felt uncomfortable without having a few extra blankets on his bed even when it caused him to nearly dehydrate in the night.
27. Fall
I don’t know how this is ever going to come in handy later on, he thought sarcastically as the wind whipped around him, but I am going to find the bastard who decided learning to space-jump was a good idea.
28. Forgotten
On an alien planet, the silent stars above, the world asleep, no light to expose him in the darkness, it was very easy to feel like he had been forgotten by the universe itself, and time moved on without him.
29. Dance
“Anyone else feel like being an idiot?” Their instructor asked bluntly, the cadet that had done a victory dance in the simulator now bleeding out rapidly on the floor.
30. Body
The body became the heaviest thing imaginable when one was exhausted, but became the lightest scrap of air after hypo met vein and the commander was forcing him to stay awake another night without sleep.
31. Sacred
The Vulcans held the teachings of Surak sacred, like a religion, but to him that seemed to get thrown out the window the second they had to physically defend themselves from death.
32. Farewells
Farewells were impossible on the battlefield, because most of the time, they were long since dead when he tripped over them.
33. World
The weight of the world vanished when he stepped forward with all intentions to kill the rebel leader and had reappeared when he had felt the Vulcan’s heart finally stop beating.
34. Formal
There would never be something he hated more then the formal, high collar of dress uniforms, so he decided long ago that when he finally made captain, he was going to wear as little as possible around his neck no matter the circumstance.
35. Fever
Vulcan fever it was called amongst the troops, an appropriate name when he could think of nothing else but all consuming heat as he lay trembling on his cot and his fellow soldiers ignored him, hoping he would die soon so they could go through his belongings.
36. Laugh
Laughter was the second rarest commodity around the camp and the first was water.
37. Lies
Everything the academy had ever told them about war, he decided a while after graduation, was a god damn fucking lie.
38. Forever
Until you’ve stood in the middle of a desert, bodies stretching in every direction, unable to find your way back to camp, you have no idea what forever is.
39. Overwhelmed
This is it, he thought as the two Vulcans, teamed together, quickly overwhelmed him and he felt hot fingers press against his sweaty temples.
40. Whisper
He had always thought they would come like a herd of cattle, screaming and barreling and thundering into his mind, but the force of the two Vulcans combined was little more then a whisper that tore at his mind with all the force of a whirldwind.
41. Wait
For the rest of his life, there was no wait longer then the one after his body had collapsed on top of Sarek’s, uncaring of which side of the war found him first.
42. Talk
The talk around the camps never changed, only the attitude and volume in which they were spoken.
43. Search
They had searched for the admiral’s body for six days, found him on the end of seventh, and killed him on the morning of the eighth.
44. Hope
When he entered the Empire’s academy, hope was the very first thing they broke him of.
45. Eclipse
Wonder if it’s a good omen or a bad one, he thought to himself as he stared through coated lenses up at the slow movement of the solar eclipse and day turned into night, then decided it did not matter in the least because it brought some relief to the sweltering heat.
46. Gravity
The gravity on Vulcan was higher then the gravity on Earth, almost doubled, so to train cadets they forced them into chambers with three times the gravity and passed the ones that came out still breathing.
47. Highway
Where the cycle had come from, he did not know or care, but it had a smooth ride as it blasted over the highway that cut through the Mojave and carried him towards home.
48. Unknown
The unknown is the only known that exists, because everything else can and will change into it.
49. Lock
The lock on the table was easier to break then the lock they had taught him to put on the shields to his mind, and that was all that saved him in the end.

All Christopher Richard Pike, Captain of the I.S.S. Enterprise of the Terran Empire, has to do is close his eyes and breathe, and he is back there again on the hot sands of Vulcan during the years of the Rebel War.
