It was something Pike had noticed early enough, tiny tilts of Jim's head that he had been forced to stop to escape notice on his ship. Silent communication, infinitely valuable and dangerous, but something he would not give up willingly. "You are limited by distance?" Pike questioned, thinking about his own. He and Spock had been separated by galaxies when he had been captured, and Spock had known his danger.
