Jim was silent for a moment, looking at the ceiling, mulling over Pike's words.
"Starfleet would root that sort of thing out," Jim said doggedly. "It wouldn't hold up. And Pike--" He'd lost the "Captain" for a moment, in the heat of conversation-- "has your Spock ever desired command? Mine hasn't. Even the one in the other universe I met--I had to urge him towards it. For the greater good. They're different men, that much is plain. But to be so ruthless... I can't believe it."
